Personal Finance – Spreadsheets

u10018241Here’s  a topic that I haven’t written about in a long time. Personal Finance.

I was reading about personal finance and paying off debt (credit card especially) and I came across a site that’s really great if you are into data analysis and are looking to utilize  spreadsheets to manage your personal finances.

Even though this posting at Get Rich Slowly is from 2006, the listed sites and spreadsheets are excellent and allow you to figure out financially where you are and where you want to be.

Excel spreadsheets are useful because:

  • You can modify the fields and formats to meet your own needs,
  • You can create “what-if” scenarios by making copies of a sheet, and
  • You can save the data for later use.
  • Truly learn to harness the power of Excel to do personal finance and what-if calculations.

You can also go to Microsoft to get templates for personal finance.  Of course you will need Excel to utilize these spreadsheets. workstation

On a more humorous note, I learned a new word today. Sploggers (Sites that act as SPAM in the form of blogging).  To give an idea of this, I googled “free personal finance spreadsheets” and came across many of these sites.

I personally utilize Quicken to do most of my financial analysis. On this site I especially liked the personal finance calculators.

Thrifty Fun – Fun, advice and blogs

This entry comes as a courtesy of my Sis-In-Law (RM). Good work RM. Bet you never thought you’d be published at Dad’s Taxi! 🙂

Thrifty Fun is a pretty cool site which has some really nice featured articles and newsletters which you can subscribe to. The site is family oriented, so it seems to be a pretty good place for information and tips! Most of the focus of this site is related to the home and tips on how to solve household problems. Found that to be pretty useful.

It’s here that I found another link to an interesting My Frugal Life Blog site. The site offers some excellent advice, free newsletters, tips and so much more.  You can browse the various topics and much more.

What I liked best  was the disclaimer for the site. Now I gotta figure out how to do the same for Dad’s Taxi.

Take a look along the bottom of the page and you’ll find some interesting sites for budgeting, savings advice, couponing, ezines (newsletters), etc..

Overall, the site is really nice and deserves a detailed look.. enjoy..

PS. Thanks RM.

2009 Financial Action Plan

My wife pointed this one out to me and it is indeed true! Thanks MM!

I came across this and it blew me away.. As you know Suze Orman is the Guru of personal finance.  She is giving away her new 2009 book: Suze Orman’s  2009 Action Plan.

You can download the entire book from Oprah’s site. Which is another site that is worth it’s weight in gold..

That’s all for now.  For those in the Northeast United States, have a great snowy weekend!

Trading Report: Get All of The Best Market News and links in One Place –

I was reading one of these from the Stock Advisors site and noticed a link to a really great site which gives you a consolidated view of Market news that shape the financial market.

The Trading Report is pretty good simple site which provides links to the news that is impacting the markets. I liked this site is it’s simplicity.

What I liked the best is that this site gives you links to additional sites which will allow you to make an educated decision whether you buy 1 share (like me) or a 100 shares dependent on market events. Sites include Kiplinger, Barrons, and others. I found this site to be the most simplistic collaboration site

In the past I used to update my investing page with sites like this but, now I can use this forum to share these kinds of good sites. The Trading report is something you really should check out.

A new site that I came across today was: The investors clearinghouse. The main page looked very crowded, but the information provided was a gold mine of investing related education.

Ad Free Personal Finance Blog Aggregator

I took the time time today to clean up the side bar and added some some new blogs:

I also added a new Blog snippet of the blog’s that are really worth looking at on a daily basis. This of course is a new feature offered in Blogger.

Headed towards the 4th of July weekend! Happy Independence day everyone.
